Caption: French News Presenter, Eline Briand, at al-Manar Television station in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, on December 24, 2004. Briand, 21, converted to Shiite Islam and came to Lebanon from France after marrying a Lebanese Shiite Moslem. She now presents the news in French at Al-Manar TV. The United States has recently added al-Manar television station to its list of terrorist organizations, saying it incites violence in the Middle East. The station is backed by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, already considered by the US a terrorist organization. The State Department listing came shortly after France banned broadcasts of al-Manar's satellite channel following accusations that its programs were anti-Semitic and could incite hatred.
